Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is now the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, earning $1.352 billion worldwide and surpassing the record set by 2024’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which took in $1.338 billion.
“The Odyssey” opened in theaters July 17, collecting $123 million in its domestic debut, and has remained a strong performer since.
The nearly three-hour adaptation of Homer’s epic poem has generated $516 million domestically and $835 million internationally. It ranks as Mr. Nolan’s biggest box office hit ever, surpassing 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” and is the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time.
Ryan Reynolds, who starred in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” congratulated the film’s cast and crew on social media, joking about the milestone saying, “That is one helluva car.”
The ensemble cast includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, along with Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and Robert Pattinson.
Universal Pictures produced the film, with Mr. Nolan and his wife, Emma Thomas, serving as producers.
