Technology company Oracle is among a consortium of firms that would enable TikTok to continue operations in the U.S. if a framework deal between the United States and China is finalized, sources with knowledge of the negotiations tell CBS News. The precise structure of the final deal was unclear Monday night, but will include multiple companies, the sources said. It’s not clear what level of involvement Chinese firms — including TikTok’s current parent company ByteDance — will have in the deal, and who will control TikTok’s powerful recommendation algorithm. Presidents Trump and Xi are expected to talk on Friday.Attempts to reach…
Politics / September 15, 2025 Prominent Republicans are attacking anyone who insists on describing who the late Charlie Kirk and his movement really were, even trying to get them fired. Ad Policy Charlie Kirk in Phoenix.(Justin Sullivan / Getty Images) There’s more than a little irony in the fact that acolytes of slain right-wing provocateur Charlie Kirk, hailed as a champion of free speech, have spent the days since his death working hard to attack people and even get them fired for factual social media posts about Kirk’s noxious and loudly broadcast political beliefs. Brutally murdered last Wednesday, allegedly by…

Washington — President Trump signed a presidential memorandum Monday mobilizing federal law enforcement agents to Memphis, Tennessee, as a part of a task force that will include the Tennessee National Guard, the latest planned Guard deployment in his effort to combat crime in U.S. cities. “The effort will include the National Guard as well as the FBI, ATF, DEA, ICE, Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S, Marshals,” the president said Monday, adding that the task force will be a “replica” of the efforts in Washington, D.C. Mr. Trump said he went ahead with the memo “at the request” of Tennessee’s Republican Gov.…

Washington — President Trump announced Monday the U.S. military has carried out a second strike on alleged Venezuelan “narcoterrorists” in international waters. The president said in a post on Truth Social that the strike killed three “male terrorists” whom he accused of transporting illicit drugs. The post included a video that appeared to show a strike on a boat. He did not specify where the strike took place, except to say it was in the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility, which covers the Caribbean Sea and South America. “BE WARNED — IF YOU ARE TRANSPORTING DRUGS THAT CAN KILL AMERICANS, WE ARE…
Donald Trump wants us to accept the current state of affairs without making a scene. He wants us to believe that if we resist, he will harass us, sue us, and cut funding for those we care about; he may sic ICE, the FBI, or the National Guard on us. We’re sorry to disappoint, but the fact is this: The Nation won’t back down to an authoritarian regime. Not now, not ever. Day after day, week after week, we will continue to publish truly independent journalism that exposes the Trump administration for what it is and develops ways to gum…
Toward the end of his remarks about the killing of Charlie Kirk last Friday, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox warned about the ills of America’s increasingly vitriolic online culture.”Social media is a cancer on our society right now,” he said, imploring citizens to “log off, turn off, touch grass, hug a family member and go out and do good in your community.” Standing next to him was a stony-faced FBI Director Kash Patel, a heavy social media user who posts far more frequently than his predecessors in the job, Christopher Wray and James Comey. The juxtaposition did not go unnoticed by bureau…
Trump wants to abolish quarterly earnings reports in favor of biannual. Here’s what that would mean.
President Trump says he wants to ditch a staple of U.S. financial markets: quarterly earnings reports. If Mr. Trump’s push is successful, the change would eliminate a requirement that’s been in place for 55 years, with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, mandating quarterly reports since 1970.Instead, the president said he wants to replace quarterly reporting with a new SEC rule requiring that companies disclose their financial data every six months. Providing companies with a longer ramp for issuing their reports would “save money, and allow managers to focus on properly running their companies,” Mr. Trump wrote on Monday in…
