They depicted America’s bunker-busting bomb, known as the Massive Ordnance Penetrator or GBU-57. It was being dropped from high above the Earth by a B-2 Spirit bomber. Then, the graphics showed it plowing a narrow channel deep beneath the ground — around 60 meters, or 200 feet —…

Deporting people to countries where they might be tortured or killed? All good, according to the six GOP justices. Ad Policy US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents knock on the door of a residence in Chicago on Sunday, January 26, 2025.(Christopher Dilts / Bloomberg via Getty Images) I always knew that Donald Trump’s unhinged cruelty toward immigrants would find aid and comfort among the Republicans on the Supreme Court. But I held out hope that his brazen violations of lower-court orders might give the Republicans pause before greenlighting Trump’s continued terror campaign against people who didn’t happen to be…
Los Angeles — As U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement stepped up raids across Los Angeles in recent weeks, Julie Ear and her family made a difficult drive to Tijuana International Airport just south of the U.S.-Mexico border. Ear’s mother, Regina Higuera, had lived in the United States for 36 years. But on this particular morning in early June, she left her home, her children and grandchildren — all of whom are U.S. citizens — and headed back to her birthplace in Mexico. “When the ICE raids started picking up on other states, we knew that we were going to get hit…

A satellite image of Iran’s Fordo nuclear site shows clusters of new craters likely caused by U.S. bunker buster bombs dropped over the weekend following orders by President Trump. Satellite image ©2025 Maxar Technologies hide caption toggle caption Satellite image ©2025 Maxar Technologies A U.S. official who was not authorized to speak publicly has confirmed early intelligence assessments by the Defense Intelligence Agency saying that the massive U.S. air campaign against three Iran nuclear sites on Saturday night did not “obliterate” Iran’s nuclear enrichment program as President Trump claimed but instead set it back “a few months.” CNN first published…
An initial classified assessment found the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities set back Tehran’s nuclear program by a matter of months, according to three sources familiar with its contents. The assessment, produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s military intelligence wing, said the strikes caused the entrances to two nuclear enrichment facilities, including Fordo, to be sealed off. Resumption of the enrichment program may be determined by how long it takes Iran to clear the entrances and make repairs to electrical and water supplies, two sources familiar with the report’s findings said. The DIA assessment also indicates some of Iran’s…
A vote for Zohran Mamdani is a vote against the Democratic Party’s reactionary center and for a more hopeful future. Ad Policy Disgraced former New York governor Andrew Cuomo addresses the media following a speech on June 22, 2025 in New York City.(Alex Kent / Getty Images) Any argument for voting for Andrew Cuomo over Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City is about as convincing as an RFK, Jr. vaccine briefing. But the worst reasoning for choosing Cuomo over Mamdani is that the young assemblymember would “hurt the brand” of Democratic anti-Trump opposition and “voters need to play…
The National Transportation Safety Board has issued new safety recommendations to the Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing following the 2024 incident in which a door plug flew off in the middle of an Alaska Airlines flight.”An accident like this only happens when there are multiple system failures,” NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy said at a meeting on Tuesday, partly blaming Boeing’s safety processes for the incident.Homendy led the investigation into what happened before the door panel blew out six minutes into Alaska Flight 1282 that took off from Portland on Jan. 5, 2024. The aircraft was at about 16,000 feet over Oregon during…
Washington — On the same day that President Trump ordered Saturday’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, a U.S. intelligence agency assessed that Iran could make a nuclear weapon in three to eight months — but there was no indication that it had decided to do so, CBS News has learned. The intelligence summary, issued Saturday for the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, found that Iran could build a nuclear device in months if it did not run into technical or logistical delays, two American intelligence sources familiar with the document told CBS News. But at that time, the summary did not assess…
